The weight shift in pike is a drill to teach the proper movement to shift to one arm and keep the non-working shoulder active
Cues:
- Push up and tilt towards the supporting arm while continuing to push up and reach with the other arm
- Allow non-working arm to peel from the floor based upon the weight shift
- Keep non-working arm reaching long from fingers through shoulder
- Provide additional balance with fingertips or support on one arm
Mistakes:
- Supporting shoulder moving laterally
- Supporting arm not vertical
- Non-working shoulder depressing, or losing the active push outwards in any way
- Lifting, or jumping the non-working hand off the floor
