Handstand – L-Switches on Wall

L-switches are a great drill for those working to develop consistency with their handstand entries. Learning the feeling of reaching with the top leg while the bottom leg stays down allows the athlete to recognize their body position in a controlled environment. Those with mobility limitations will notice this drill is a challenge for their endurance as well.

Cues:

  • Stand one leg length from wall to find your hand position
  • Lightly touch wall while reaching up with the other
  • Switch legs with both feet on the wall
  • Keep shoulders stacked over hands
  • Adjust the bottom leg higher for mobility limitations
    • Keep both legs straight

Mistakes:

  • Leaning heavily on the wall
  • Trying to switch in the air, or too quickly
  • Failing to hold each rep with consistency and control
  • Allowing the shoulders to planche forward
