Horse Stance + Sumo Good Morning

Horse stance + sumo GM is a hip mobility exercise. It combines active straddle with hip flexion to open the hips and lengthen the posterior chain.

 

Cues:

  • Heel to toe four times to acquire foot position for horse stance
  • Keep feet pointing forward unless there is pain
  • If there is pain allow feet to turn out enough to work around it
  • Maintain straight back as you hinge to sumo good morning
  • Bring hips further forward with each return to horse stance

Mistakes:

  • Leaning forward in horse
  • Rounding low back at any time
  • Losing tension in the hips and legs as you shift between positions
