Snatch

The snatch is an Olympic weightlifting exercise that is also common in CrossFit and alluring those interested in general fitness. It combines strength, speed, power, and mobility into a dynamic and explosive split second of precise execution.

There is much to say about the proper execution of the snatch, and even the most wordy description of the finest points of performance will inevitably leave out potential considerations that will come up when training this lift seriously. The cues and mistakes for the snatch will thus be more broad and conceptual to encourage strong mental focus and an attention to detail when going through the experience of learning this lift.

Cues:

  • Start every rep with the same approach and set up regardless of load on the bar
  • Work to make every rep look the same regardless of if you are warming up or going for a PR
  • Technical breakdown is a failed rep, whether you stand the weight up or not

Mistakes:

  • Inconsistent set up
  • Changing approach and technique as weights increase
  • Continuing to add weight after proper execution breaks down
