The tall clean is a technique drill for improving the pull under on the clean. It develops quickness and aggression in the third pull. Performed at an appropriate weight this is an extremely effective exercise learning to be “fast.”
Cues:
- Start in a balanced position with tall and strong posture
- Time the start of your pull precisely with the movement of your feet to initiate a rapid acceleration under the bar and into the receiving position
- Attack with flat feet (heels) to generate a sharp and secure racking of the barbell
- There is no jump to initiate this movement
Mistakes:
- Pulling high before moving the feet
- Jumping to move the bar upwards
- Landing on the toes
