The clean is an exercise used to develop strength, power and force absorption. It can be trained specifically for the sport of Olympic Weightlifting, or used to develop athletes in a wide variety of sports. Entire books are written on the proper set up and execution of this exercise. The cues and mistakes will contain more conceptual points of performance that generalize well to the athlete learning to improve their skills in weightlifting
Cues:
- Start every rep with the same approach and set up regardless of load on the bar
- Work to make every rep look the same regardless of if you are warming up or going for a PR
- Technical breakdown is a failed rep, whether you stand the weight up or not
Mistakes:
- Inconsistent set up
- Changing approach and technique as weights increase
- Continuing to add weight after proper execution breaks down
